Historic Room Where Tank was Invented

The Tank Room boasts a dining area with a large rectangular table set for a meal, surrounded by chairs. The walls are adorned with numerous framed pictures, while a chandelier elegantly hangs from the ceiling.

The Tank Room is one of the White Hart’s jewels in the crown.

This historic room is where, in 1915, the modern-day tank was conceived of.

A meeting was held in the Summer of 1915 between William Ashbee Tritton, Managing Director of William Foster, a Lincoln engineering firm; his chief draughtsman William Rigby and W. G. Wilson, a Naval Officer.

From this meeting, emerged the designs for what was to become known as the ‘Tank’ and several hundred were subsequently built in Lincoln.

The Tank Room can accommodate 10 guests for private dining in a traditional style and offers a more intimate, memorable experience.

The elegant dining room near Bailgate features a long table set for a formal meal, surrounded by wooden chairs. Chandeliers and wall sconces illuminate the space, while large windows with plush curtains complete the sophisticated ambiance.

A plated dish featuring a seared fish fillet, surrounded by clams, garnished with microgreens and flower petals, reminiscent of the lavish banquets enjoyed by King Richard II, and served on a creamy sauce.

An assortment of vegetable dishes on a table includes bowls of carrots, green beans, crispy potato wedges, broccoli, red cabbage, and cheesy baked potatoes fit for a royal courtyard feast.

Private Dining In The Bailgate Room

The Bailgate offers a more intimate venue for your celebrations and milestones, with room for 50 guests and a chance to enjoy wonderful views over Bailgate.
