Founded in 1976 by Philip Gilbert, the Chorale is excited to be celebrating it’s 50th birthday over this season!
The choir, of around 40 voices, brings a unique range of a cappella choral repertoire to audiences around Lincolnshire. We like to perform gems from the huge repertoire of pieces that don’t work well with a large choir and are usually either unaccompanied or with just organ accompaniment.
Recent performances have included John Taverner’s Western Wynde Mass, Britten’s Choral dances from Gloriana, Rachmaninov’s Vespers, Dove’s The Passing of the year, Requiems by Howells and Cherubini and smaller pieces ranging from the 16th to 21st centuries by composers as varied as Dove, Tomkins, Bruckner, Macmillan, Palestrina, Tallis and Rheinberger.
The choir performs in venues both in the city of Lincoln and around the county, having visited Gainsborough and Stow in recent years.
Since its first performance in 1977, the choir has established a reputation for a high quality of performance of demanding and interesting repertoire. Many of the members have been with the group for over 20 years and are still enjoying being challenged by new music on their Tuesday night rehearsals with our Musical Director, Paul Young.
