Freewheeling Jazz invites you to an evening of live music in the Royal Courtyard with the Josh Bailey Trio. With Josh Bailey on piano, alongside Casper Hamilton on bass and Dom Holyoake on drums make a note in your diary as these musicians are making their way to the top!
Enthralling pianist Josh, just 18, had already made his name on the local music scene before he started his first year on the jazz degree at the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire – a year early, given his precocious talent. He is also an alumni of Birmingham’s Music’s Talent Development Programme
Indeed, such has been Josh’s impact on the thriving, vibrant and exciting jazz scene in the West Midlands over the past 12 months that he is commonly referred to as the “Birmingham Wonderkid”. He has appeared at Symphony Hall’s Jennifer Blackwell Space, at the prestigious Peggy’s Skylight in Nottingham and very recently his group supported US jazz saxophone giant Tim Berne at the Conservatoire.
Josh Bailey’s jazz composition is rich with fresh takes on the Great American Songbook and influences including Keith Jarrett, McCoy Tyner, Mulgrew Miller, Shai Maestro, Sultan Stevenson, Pablo Held and Kit Downes. When he comes to Lincoln he will also showcase some of his recently composed originals, displaying in the words of one writer “his fertile imagination and improvising chops”.
Outstanding instrumentalists Casper and Dom are comparative veterans, Casper having just started his third year on the Conservatoire degree while Dom has recently graduated. The Trio has worked together for the past year and a half and have performed in many different venues and events
It is therefore both a delight and a pleasure to welcome Josh Bailey to Lincoln and especially to play in the stunning, atmospheric surroundings of the Royal Courtyard.
Doors open at 7pm and admission is £15 advance or £17 on the door. Snacks and small plates are available and the performance will finish by 10pm. Tickets are available from the Hotel reception and can also be purchased online at SeeTickets.
