Historic room where the modern tank was invented

The Tank Room is one of the White Hart’s jewels in the crown.

This historic room is where, in 1915, the modern-day tank was conceived of.

A meeting was held in the Summer of 1915 between William Ashbee Tritton, Managing Director of William Foster, a Lincoln engineering firm; his chief draughtsman William Rigby and W. G. Wilson, a Naval Officer.

From this meeting, emerged the designs for what was to become known as the ‘Tank’ and several hundred were subsequently built in Lincoln.

The Tank Room offers a unique and intimate space for meetings and can accommodate 10 delegates in a theatre-style setup. The historic surroundings are also suited to smaller board room style meetings and can also be used for private dining for delegates.
