As part of our exciting refurbishment of the hotel, we are pleased to welcome you to our vision for the new Colonnade Cocktail Bar & Lounge.
Situated at the heart of the hotel and formerly known as ‘The Lounge Bar’, this stylish yet relaxed space has been designed by the team at the renowned DO Design Studio and will be a transformational venue throughout the day. In the morning, the Colonnade Lounge will serve artisan coffee and other speciality Barista drinks to get your day off to a great start.
From noon onwards, we will be serving a mouth-watering selection of small plates, showcasing the very best local and seasonal Lincolnshire ingredients.
As evening falls and the candles are lit, the space will transform into one of Lincoln’s most elegant and stylish destinations for indulgent cocktails, low key acoustic entertainment and a place to socialise and celebrate with friends and family.
The name of the Colonnade Cocktail Bar & Lounge reflects the Roman history of Lincoln and the iconic Colonnades which once stood on Bailgate. Being situated at the heart of Uphill Lincoln, we thought it only right to have a respectful nod to the rich history of the local area.
Known in Roman times as Lindum Colonia, Lincoln was first founded as a settlement by the Romans in about AD 50, when a ‘coloni’, which is a rest building for soldiers, was established on top of what is now Steep Hill, where the castle now stands and close to the hotel.
As many locals will no doubt be aware, as you follow Bailgate from Castle Hill to the Newport Arch, you are walking along the Roman Colonnade with the Forum to your left.
If you take a quick glance along the road, you will see circular stone setts on display in the street. These markers show the position of a row of what would have been 19 columns stretching an impressive 84 metres. This formed the front and main entrance to the Roman Forum in the area, creating a portico.
Our new branding shows the columns in a clear, stylised way and also signifies the elegance within the new cocktail lounge and bar.
